”I’m starting with the man in the mirror I’m asking him to change his ways And no message could have been any clearer If you want to make the world a better place Take a look at yourself, and then make a change”
Michael Jackson (Man in the mirror)
Boston Celtics star Kyrie Irving has had a reflective week that started in Orlando on Sunday. Irving publicly criticized his young teammates after a 103-105 loss to the Orlando Magic that saw young Celtics star Jayson Tatum missed an opportunity to tie the game up after the inbound from Gordon Hayward Irving was visibly upset in regards to the play.
Irving would give his thoughts after the game on what his team is lacking and how he thinks they can get where they need to be to go far.
The Boston Celtics would fall to the Brooklyn Nets a couple days later which would lead to young Celtic Jaylen Brown to give his own views on how the team can move forward.
The Toronto Raptors where next for the Celtics and that would see the Celtics star Irving put his team on his back to win 117-108 finishing with 27 points, 18 assists, and five rebounds. Kyrie would show his evolution as a human and basketball player sharing that he made a call to former teammate LeBron James after the Magic game to apologize for how he acted as a young player when James returned to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
This was a rare moment for an athlete/celebrity to be so honest and to put themselves in such a position to say he was wrong and apologize for his mistake. This is a confession that should be praised and celebrated in a time where you get a one-word answer or a death stare Irving opened up and said I was wrong and I apologized for it to the person I wronged and I am better for it. This was a huge step in the evolution of Irving as a basketballer and leader and the Boston Celtics will be signifcantly better for it.
Thank you, Kyrie for giving us such an honest moment it’s refreshing and welcomed.
