James Woodard moves back to Germany to suit up for Baskets Oldenburg

Arcadia, OK native and former Tulsa University star James Woodard is on the move again.

The EWE Baskets Oldenburg wasted no time patching up their backcourt, signing veteran guard James Woodard after an injury opened up space in the rotation. And for Oldenburg, it’s not just a replacement move — it’s an upgrade in experience and proven production.

“I’m grateful for this opportunity,” said Woodard. “It’s great to be back in Germany and to play in the BBL again. With a great club like Oldenburg, with rich history. I’m here to help the team the best way I can and to become a successful team this season.”

At 31, Woodard has logged serious miles across Europe. From Italy and Turkey to France, Lithuania, and North Macedonia, the Tulsa native has seen it all. He’s suited up in over 200 games across European leagues, plus more than 50 battles in top international competitions like the EuroCup and the Basketball Champions League. In the German BBL, he’s already tested with Bayreuth, Ludwigsburg, and Hamburg, tallying 68 games and carving out a reputation as a dependable scorer.

His best? Back in 2019–20 with Bayreuth, where he averaged 13 points, 3.8 boards, and 2.8 assists, while hitting around 40% from deep. That three-ball has followed him throughout his career, giving him the “Juice” nickname and making him a dangerous option anywhere on the floor.

Woodard’s résumé also includes a Final Four run with Ludwigsburg in the Basketball Champions League and a trip to the Polish Cup Final. In the playoffs especially, he’s stepped up big — dropping 15.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game when the lights were brightest.

Now rocking the number 10 jersey in Oldenburg, Woodard will reunite with former teammate Seth Hinrichs. For Oldenburg fans, it means one thing: Juice is about to flow.
