Breaking: Thunder extends Alex Caruso

As most expected, the Oklahoma City Thunder and Alex Caruso have agreed to a four-year $81 million extension to keep him in OKC for the foreseeable future.

When the Thunder traded former sixth overall pick Josh Giddey to Chicago in exchange for Caruso over the summer, it was expected that Caruso would receive a long-term extension with the team as soon as he was eligible and Sunday was the day the news finally broke.

Caruso has brought elite defense to OKC, ranking top-five in many key defensive statistics such as deflections and setting the tone alongside Lu Dort when it comes to perimeter defense for the Thunder.

Offensively, Caruso has struggled this season, shooting only 30% from 3-point range and averaging just five points per game. However, he has shot 37.5% from deep over his last ten and is finding more comfortability within a complex offensive system.

Locking up Caruso for the long-term future was clearly a priority for Sam Presti and the Thunder and now it has both Caruso and Dort under contract for multiple seasons.
