Ezekiel Elliott, Dallas Cowboys on the brink of extension

Throughout this Ezekiel Elliot holdout, there have been numerous rumors and bogus reports from even the most credible sources. Per another report earlier on Tuesday, that may finally be ending as the Dallas Cowboys star running back is reportedly “close” to an agreement.

Per reports, the pending agreement is a six-year extension worth $90 million.

If true, this deal would be monumental for both sides. Elliott’s new deal would be worth $33 million more in total value that Todd Gurley, who has the next-highest contract at $58.5 million. Guaranteed money is what players, and specifically running back have their eye on and Gurley is currently atop the list at $45 million guaranteed.

Saquon Barkley leads all players at his position with $31 million fully guaranteed and it’s suspected that Elliott’s fully guaranteed money will be in that ballpark.

The timing of this report is interesting considering the big extensions for La’el Collins, and Jaylon Smith. Two other key extensions on the board are Dak Prescott or Amari Cooper that are expected to be next. Dallas indicated that they’d sign their trio of offensive talent this offseason and although there is a ton of money on the books, can they make this happen? I’m intrigued to see how this saga with Elliott out and how they proceed with Prescott and Cooper.
