Game 13 Preview: Thunder vs Mavericks

Tonight, the Oklahoma City Thunder (5-7) have the golden opportunity to improve their record against one of the worst teams in the league, the Dallas Mavericks (2-11).

This is absolutely a game that it shouldn’t be underestimate. The Thunder were also supposed to easily beat the Sacramento Kings, but as we all know, they miserably failed.

Keys to the Game

Smart Offense – The Mavericks come into tonight’s game as one of the worst defensive teams in the league. They are giving up 107.4 points per game (21st) and their defensive rating is 108.9 (28th). The game against the Los Angeles Clippers showed that when the Thunder move the ball and keep everyone involved, then they are almost impossible to stop. Oklahoma City should take advantage of Dallas’ defensive issues by exploiting their firepower.

Mental Focus – Although the difference in the team’s skill set is big and you would expect a sure win, we have to declare that Oklahoma city has been showing the bad habit to give up big leads so far this season. Tonight’s game might become a trap if, at some point, Oklahoma City starts to relax. The team will have to stay mentally engaged in order to succeed.

Free Throws – One of the worst surprises in the beginning of this season is the currently poor performance on the free throw line.  Overall, they are ranked 27th in the league with only 71,8%. Even worse: In the three games played this week, the Thunder shot a horrifying 66,6% from the FT line. They have to improve or they will lose valuable points.
