The University of Central Oklahoma women’s basketball team is on a roll so far this 2015-2016 season. At the halfway point, they sport a (11-4) record. It’s safe to say that so far this year they’ve dominated most of the competition.
It was Sunday, Nov. 8 when I realized this may just be a special year for UCO women’s basketball. They played Wichita State University which is a NCAA division one school, and they didn’t beat them, but they played them very competitively with a great deal of confidence. Only losing the game 68-61 in Wichita, Kansas. Most of the exhibition games against division one teams end in UCO getting blown out. It’s really supposed to be a pay day for the Bronchos while the players get a little more experience, but every once in awhile there will be a game where the smaller school makes it a game, or in some cases win the game. Not to mention, when they lose it’s always a game. Their average margin of loss is 7.7 points.
So far this season the answer has been McKenzie Solberg and Julia Mason who average roughly 25 points per game combined. Even with those two averaging 25 combined, there are five other players averaging 5-8 points per game. This balanced attack clearly works to their advantage and will hopefully only get better as the season progresses into tournament play in March.
UCO’s next game will be Thursday, Jan. 15 in Kearny, Nebraska against the University of Nebraska-Kearny.
Gteat story! Keep up the good work!
