Trae Young named Assistant General Manager of OU basketball, set to donate $1 million

Trae Young announced a groundbreaking move during an appearance on NBA Today.

In a discussion with Malika Andrews, Young announced that he had accepted a position as the Assistant General Manager for Oklahoma’s men’s basketball program and that he was donating $1 million to the Sooners.

Young starred for the Sooners in 2017-18 when he averaged 27.4 points per game, along with 8.7 assists and 3.9 rebounds. Since his time in Norman, Young has become a star for the Atlanta Hawks. He is a one-time All-NBA selection and a four-time all-star.

“I think, obviously, today the game has changed, and with NIL in college basketball, the way it’s changed, it’s, I think, a perfect time for guys to be more involved with the schools that made them who they were, or help just kind of push them to be who they were,” Young said. “I know, for someone like Steph and me, I mean, we represent our schools off the court and in the locker rooms and talk trash all the time. So now, to be able to represent even more is going to be even more special.”
