Weaver Joins Wizards, Reuniting Former Thunder Executives

Troy Weaver is joining the Washington Wizards’ front office as a senior advisor.

Weaver’s last four years were spent as the general manager of the Detroit Pistons, but will now reunite with Monumental Sports/Wizards president Michael Winger and GM Will Dawkins, who worked with Weaver for over a decade within the Oklahoma City’s leadership under Sam Presti.

Weaver’s agent, Andy Miller of Klutch Sports, is working to finalize the deal to get Weaver worked into the organization ahead of the NBA Draft on Wednesday and the league’s free agency period.

With the Wizards in full rebuild mode, Winger and Dawkins sought out Weaver for his expertise in evaluating amateur talent and player development. Weaver played a pivotal role alongside Sam Presti in scouting and developing the era, including Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, James Harden, Serve Ibaka, and Reggie Jackson.

A D.C. native, Weaver is returning home. He graduated from Archbishop Carroll High School and began his coaching career with the storied AAU program D.C. Assault, which preceded his career collegiately and the NBA.

This rich experience positions Weaver as a valuable asset in the Wizards’ player development strategy.
