Jrue Holiday, Philanthropist

On December 19th, Milwaukee Bucks guard Jrue Holiday publicly announced that he was donating the remainder of his 2019-2020 salary to small black owned businesses, nonprofits and initiatives. This is a huge move from the former All-Star. It shows that the social justice efforts from last season has not gone forgotten.

In a time where we’re looking towards 2021, Holiday has shown that we have to look at now. The “Black Lives Matter” and “Support Small Black Businesses” chants of this year have slowly faded away like a trend that has ran its course; and this is where Jrue sought out to light the fire again. Additionally, the Los Angeles native and his wife Lauren, will be donating $5 million over the next three years to organizations in New Orleans, Indianapolis, Los Angeles and Compton via a social justice fund, according to their website.

Holiday’s 2020 salary is reported at $26.1 million. So even 10% of that is going to be groundbreaking for these organizations. Jrue and Lauren Holiday are no strangers to philanthropic and communal efforts either. On the homepage of their website, the words “committed to intentionally moving communities forward by boldly creating change when and where it’s most needed” are the first thing you see on the homepage. And this latest effort proves that their mission will not be in vain.
