Preview: North Texas vs. OU

The Oklahoma Sooners (4-1) return to Norman tonight to take on the North Texas Mean Green (4-3).

The Sooners are riding some momentum from their 2-1 performance at the PK80 Invitational over the Thanksgiving break. Tonight, the Sooners will need to continue carrying that momentum heading into a tough stretch of non conference games.

The Sooners come into tonight’s game as a 29 point favorite over the Mean Green. That’s no surprise, the Sooners are playing exceptionally well and it all starts with freshman phenom Trae Young. Young is currently ranked 2nd in the nation with 28.2 points per game.

Sophomore guard Roosevelt Smart is the leading scorer for the Mean Green with 17.1 points a game.

Keys to Victory

Stay Hot – Even with a loss on the record, head coach Lon Kruger has one of the hottest teams in the nation. There are still some questions to be answered from this team, but scoring points isn’t one of them. The Sooners are the 3rd ranked scoring team in the nation (96.4ppg). The Sooners will score some points tonight against a bad North Texas defensive team.

SWAT Team – The Sooners have one of the best defensive frontcourts. The rotation of Khadeem Lattin, Jamuni McNeace and Brady Manek have been tough to score on in the paint. The Sooners are currently ranked 16th in the nation with 6.2 blocks a game. The Mean Green carry some size, but they shouldn’t be a match for the Sooners in the post.

Find a Robin – It’s no secret that Young is the Sooners best player. The rest of the team has done a very nice job sharing the rest of the points. However, if the Sooners want to win games when Young goes cold, Kruger is going to need to find a second option in the offense.

Prediction

Sooners 101, Mean Green 76
