Black sports history fact #22

Marlin Briscoe paved the way for Cam Newton and Robert Griffin III to tear stuff up on the field. Marlin “the Magician”was the first black starting quarterback in NFL history after being drafted by the Denver Broncos in the 14th round of the 1968 NFL Draft.
Briscoe was a standout in high school and when he was at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Briscoe started off as the eighth quarterback on the depth chart in training camp, but due to a injury filled season just like my Dallas Cowboys this year, he got a chance to be the starting quarterback for the team and made the best of the opportunity.
