Daniel Dixon coached his final home game of the season for the Oklahoma City Blue, a 120-105 loss. Dixon joined the Thunder as an assistant coach in 2022 before being named head coach of the Blue on Aug. 28, 2025, replacing Kameron Woods, who is now an assistant with the Thunder. Before transitioning to coaching, Dixon spent three seasons in the G League as a player with the Maine Red Claws, Phoenix Suns, and Chicago Bulls affiliates.
The Blue have already been eliminated from playoff contention, but this season has always been centered on roster exploration, development, and evaluation. “Our job is to develop the guys. Every guy comes in with a goal in mind, and they’re constantly working toward that,” Dixon said.
The Thunder organization takes pride in developing not just its players, but its coaches as well. Woods and Grant Gibbs both followed similar paths, moving from the Blue and Summer League roles into assistant positions with the Thunder. Dixon appears to be next in line.
In limited time around Dixon this season, his professionalism, maturity, and presence have stood out. He carries himself like someone the organization trusts in a leadership role. Whether that leads to an NBA head coaching opportunity remains to be seen, but his trajectory points toward a long-term role on an NBA bench.
