Sooners Gameday Preview: Oklahoma vs Ole Miss

The Oklahoma Sooners (4-3) travel to Oxford, Mississippi to take on the No. 18 Ole Miss Rebels (5-2) on Saturday, Oct. 26. Kickoff is set for 11:00 a.m. (CT).

The Sooners are hoping to find some sort of momentum after back-to-back blowout losses at the hands of the Texas Longhorns and South Carolina Gamecocks. Oklahoma currently sits as a 20-point underdog.

What to watch for:

Will ANYTHING change on the offensive side of the ball?

Oklahoma announced the firing of offensive coordinator Seth Littrell on Sunday night. Co-offensive coordinator Joe Jon Finley will take over interim play-calling duties while analyst Kevin Johns, the former Duke offensive coordinator, has been promoted to interim quarterbacks coach and co-offensive coordinator. It will be interesting to see if anything changes scheme-wise, but I am not even sure how much that will help.

The offensive line is what it is at this point. Can they improve as the season goes on? Sure. However, this is not an offense that is suddenly going to turn it around and start throwing 30-plus points on the scoreboard, but maybe a new strategy and game plan can provide some sort of spark.

Can Oklahoma’s defense keep them in the game?

Like Sooner Scoop reporter George Stoia said on X last Saturday, “It’s amazing how this defense continues to respond despite how bad it is everywhere else on this team.”

This might arguably be the biggest test OU’s defense has faced yet. Ole Miss ranks second in the nation in total offense, led by quarterback Jaxson Dart, who ranks third in the nation in total passing yards. How much longer can the defense keep it up?

Prediction

Oklahoma keeps it close in the first half, but Ole Miss pulls away in the second half as the Sooner defense eventually gets worn down. 28-13 Ole Miss
