For The Ladies: 3 Liquid Lipsticks Perfect For Fall

With the changing of leaves and crisp winds of autumn come festive frills like bonfires, spiced treats, and tailgating. The season calls for classic and chic looks with cozy scarves and sleek boots. Complete your harvest-ready look with one of these trendy matte lipsticks in colors that are vibrantly sweet with a moody edge. Fashionable football fans can even pair their favorite jersey with one of these lippies in their home team’s colors. No need to break the bank, grab one or even all three and still have enough left over for a pumpkin spice latte.

Milani Amore Matte Lip Crème in Attraction ($8.99)

Reminiscent of mulled wine and cranberry, this color is truly stunning for the Holidays. Part of Milani’s Fall 2016 collection, this shade comes in a Boomer Sooner deep crimson that’s ideal for those looking to show their team spirit. Classically glam with a vampy twist, this lipstick is a must have in any collection.

Review:

This packaging is gorgeous and expensive looking especially for something you can find on your pharmacy shelf. The product is showcased in a transparent square bottle with a reflective gold lid. The scent is light and sweet like sugar cookies but not too overwhelming. This lip creme dries instantly, is non-sticky and long lasting. The deep berry lipstick is perfect for a party as you won’t have to worry about kiss marks on your cocktail glass with its transfer-proof matte finish. Even though it dries completely opaque, it doesn’t appear flat and makes lips appear full. The formula is buildable and when glided on in a thin layer, the consistency is smooth and light. However when administered too thick, the texture can be a tad dry and flaky. This can be solved by applying with a gentle touch or another lip brush.  My lovely model Ebone (pictured above) and I were both very impressed with this line and are excited to try more products from it. Milani is an elegant and trend-aware drugstore brand that has intriguing color selections that are flattering for different skin tones.

Tip: 

Apply gold shimmer highlight in center of lips for depth. Add gold shadow to eyelids and a double coat of mascara for dazzling drama.

L.A. Girl Matte Pigment Lip Gloss in Instinct ($6)

This tangerine tint brings to mind sweet pumpkin spice and golden-orange autumn foliage. If you’re an Oklahoma State football fan, this lip accessory is an on point color match for your Cowboys apparel of choice. A bright and bold orange lipstick is quintessential for the quirky girl at heart. Dress it up and wear it as an offbeat alternative to red or pink with an evening dress, or utilize it as an added dose of color into your daytime look.

Model: Ebone Nero in “Instinct”

This matte lip gloss is delivered in a clear container with a striking black letter design and a matte black top. The pigment is rich, saturated, and stands out while beautifully accentuating both fairer and deeper skin tones. The shade reads as a true orange that leans toward coral with red undertones, while still being very wearable. This finish is a semi-opaque matte that will keep up with you for your daily errands. The consistency toes the line between a lipstick and a gloss and as such can be a little on the sticky side. I didn’t feel dried out after wearing, but I’ve learned that a lot of these products go swimmingly with a good lip balm and a light hand. I had fun trying out a makeup goodie from L.A. Girl Cosmetics for the first time and am curious to explore more hidden gems from their brand in the future. They appear to be bringing unique offerings to the expanding drugstore beauty landscape.

Tip:

For extra long-lasting staying power and mattifying, dust a hint of translucent powder over your pout and end with a spritz of setting spray. To remove, use coconut oil or an oil-based makeup remover.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Abu Dhabi ($6)

A nude lip is forever fashionable no matter the season. The trick is finding the perfect hue that will flatter your skin tone and is versatile enough for every day. Swap your summer peachy neutrals for this cool-toned taupe that will make anyone look effortlessly polished. Tans, leathers, and suedes are sexy and simple styles that come to life after September. This caramelly cosmetic confection is a more than suitable companion.

Review:

This is encased in a

simple champagne colored tube with a glossy finish and matte black cap. When opened, the product has a very subtle vanilla fragrance. The tone is a deep beige that also serves as a dupe for more expensive nude liquid lipsticks like Dolce K by Kylie Jenner. Neither too light nor too dark, this shade complements a variety of different complexions. I thankfully found this formula to be the most creamy and moisturizing, but if you’re looking for a 24-hour bullet-proof lip color this might not be your holy grail. It can take minutes to dry into its satiny matte finish and may need reapplication after having a snack. Still, this line of lipsticks is amazingly crumble-free and has a fantastic color collection considering you can grab it for $6. NYX is one of my favorite brands available today even in competition with designer and high-end companies. I’ve tried this lipstick before in “Prague”, a berry shade but am much more impressed with “Abu Dhabi”. Luckily I can afford to continue experimenting and purchasing different products from them because their excellent prices make it possible.

Tip:

For a perfect lip with crisp lines, apply lipstick starting with a crisscross pattern on your cupid’s bow. Draw around the outer rim before filling in. Clean up the outside edges with concealer and a thin brush before blending out for a flawless finish.
